Coinpad OTB treasure box

The so-called coin box created a coin. It’s cheap and simple, a replacement for your pocket, nothing special.

Fortunately, a person has gained experience and improved his qualifications and skills over the years. We are getting better and better, we are improving, setting higher standards for ourselves. The crossbar is suspended high. Trivial solutions cannot take place when you appear, for a professional or so you think.


I needed a better solution. Years pass, a person becomes more comfortable, but eyesight and motor coordination are no longer the same. Coins are becoming more and more interesting and it’s a shame to wear them with just anything and in any way. This is how I came up with the idea of ​​creating a convenient box. Before this happened, I used ready-made solutions. Cheap solutions. The result was that I lost all the content a few times and unfortunately it wasn’t just any stuff.


The mounting of my coin box needed to be improved and secured against loss. The magnetic connection itself is a good solution, but as it turned out when testing the first prototypes, I’m not necessarily 100% sure. A sleeve with a slight press fit had to be added. It worked perfectly.

The next step was to install a popular atomizer to clean the surfaces of delicate coins non-invasively. Despite many attempts, I chose a ready-made solution and designed only an atomizer. There were three reasons: low weight, price, and availability in the event of loss or damage. There was no point in creating your solution here.

To mount the brush, here I chose an ecological variant with very soft bristles. There is nothing worse than scratching something under the influence of emotions. The mounting base itself had to be as light as possible, have a belt or pocket clasp, and eyes for additional security or fastening. The set can also be attached to Molle systems from military equipment, backpacks, bags, containers, pouches, etc. Everything is carefully thought out to make the most of the space. Vertical orientation or changing direction also horizontally for left- and right-handed people takes just a few moments. The rear hitch can also be freely rotated and locked with a screw.


For practical purposes, the lid has a slot with a rough ruler for more detailed viewing of the coin, preliminary measurement, or positioning for a photo.

Under the box, there is a snap-locked magnifying glass with 7x magnification. The magnifying glass, atomizer mount, and box can be available in a fluorescent version for easier orientation in the dark and case of loss. Soft foam with cuts inside is just a formality.

The magnetic mounting allows you to attach the tray to a smooth metal surface, which is sometimes useful when you want to take the box itself.

Ferrous Limits Manticore

Why is discrimination the enemy of the Seeker? I will try to explain it using the top model of the Minelab Manticore detector. Why choose the most expensive equipment possible that most of us cannot afford? There are a few reasons. First of all, this detector has great imaging and you can easily understand everything by looking at the screen. Moreover, masked targets are very easy to spot if something is lying close to the iron.

Apart from discrimination, we can set the so-called iron limits and Ferrous limits. What does it do? The iron scale is wide in this detector, which cannot be said about other devices. What does it do? It is easy to distinguish and separate large and fine iron from each other.

What’s the point of all this? For a simple reason, big irons are often very interesting. A horseshoe, a sword, a cannonball, a bayonet can be the find of the day, and a well-identified bottle cap can save you time.

Ok, let’s start with the basics.

The upper gray bar is the set range of iron – the fine one. In this case, we have an iron nail. The bottom bar is for larger items. The axis in the middle is the conductivity axis from left to right from ID values 1 to 99.

For example, a thin silver coin will be in the middle on the left, but it may also fall… depending on the conditions there…

To be sure, we rotate each target 90 degrees and check how the drawing of the object has changed… this is a really big hint!

Here is the same nail after turning 90 degrees. Why is this happening? Often, iron, especially when rusty and having various complex shapes, distorts its color. In the case of forged nails, it may be their heads or the bend itself. The round and hollow shapes of the target are a story for another article.

The image above shows EMI interference. Just detune the detector or lower the sensitivity.

Here the nail or steel screw can be seen to be on the verge of the upper limit range. What do we do to check? We focus on the goal. Then the object will disappear or completely fall into the upper zone of the range.

Here’s a coin next to a nail. You can see the signal of an iron object trying to cover the coin’s signature.

Finally, how not to set limits. A textbook example of how not to do it is below. This is an error that closes the device’s potential and does not allow separately masked objects. The detector becomes blind if the coin is next to the iron and there is no chance of separating and identifying it. This setting improves work comfort and silences the device… but only apparently. Moving too close to the axis seems like an ideal solution, but it is not! We have the Silencer option, which also needs to be used carefully.

So how do you set both limits? Under the conditions prevailing in a given place and the lowest – in the sense of the smallest value away from the conductivity axis. If the manufacturer sets the upper limit to 9, try starting with a value of 7 or lower. In my case, the limit is 4 even in difficult conditions. This arrangement places a greater workload on the operator, but also drastically improves the device’s performance.

There is no silver bullet here. You have to exercise until it hurts. Finally, there is the All Metal mode and the complete opening of iron and discrimination limits to check the given object.

Pinpointer SPHINX 03

The new pinpointer from the Russian company Sphinx 03 is breaking popularity records abroad. In Poland, in the name of sick political correctness, there is hate that this is not allowed, one pinpointer is the life of one Ukrainian. Ideology has reached the bottom, because what can be said about Russian tanks used on the Ukrainian front or about the pinpointers themselves, which the Ukrainians themselves are asking about? What about the gas we buy from Russia, so won’t we heat our homes and refuel our cars?!

There is no point in combining passion with politics, it has never been good for anyone, at least not in this way, so what do we get new in version 03?

What’s included?

The set includes, apart from a holster – I already have a second thigh holster – only one for the belt (my version is a test version, so it may change), we also have a lanyard and a charging cable. Not much has changed here, but the first difference that catches the eye is the built-in internal battery and the USB-C charging connector. Some will be delighted, others will complain that a replaceable battery will be better in the field. Who likes whatever?


Water resistance to 6 meters remains unchanged. Automatic switching on and only when removed from the holster – we know it from the previous model, loss alarm or switching to switching off mode if the pinpointer is not used. Changing the tone, volume, 4 sensitivity modes, flashlight, LED indication of the battery discharge level and additional tuning is a copy of what was previously presented to us.


What’s new is simple discrimination, the color is signaled by a green LED on the housing cap or a red one, all accompanied by a change in tone and vibration.

I can already hear the howling, who needs discrimination in pinpointers?! Well, why?! Most of us won’t find it useful, but there are exceptions. First of all, the beaches are covered with an awful lot of caps. Sphinx 03 will allow you to avoid priceless waste of time, and secondly, it is an ideal solution for diving, where we make our work much easier in a difficult environment. The last place is the areas full of iron, splinters, or nails, and we will be much better there too.


Everyone must decide for themselves what will be better for them. So are there any other new features – or solutions that distinguish the Sphinx 03 pinpointer from other pinpointers available on the market? Yes, and it’s an app. Who needs a pinpointer application? Village idiots are tearing their clothes and screaming at the heavens! Just for them, for those who do not read the instructions and do not know how to switch functions using one button and the combinations associated with it!

But how?! It’s incredibly simple, you can connect to the pinpointer and switch all the functions on the smartphone screen and, in addition, check the exact battery charge level… The application will be in English and maybe even in Polish, we still have to wait for that.

Update in pinpointer?

In the future, the manufacturer also provides for the possibility of remote software updates. Are there any other questions?

Good because it’s Russian?!

How could this pinpointer be so sensitive and good and, on top of that, Russian?! The problem lies in our stereotypical beliefs, acquired over the years, that everything Russian is bad and is of no use. Times have changed and it’s time to wake up.

Sphinx 03 is currently the best pinpointer with the largest number of settings and configuration options on the market, and also the most sensitive. The manufacturer also added a cover for the tip of the pinpointer to protect it from abrasion.

Nexus swept the competition

For many years, the theory has been promoted that analog detectors are obsolete devices that have gone down in modern history, but their time has irretrievably passed. Is it really true that only modern digital detectors have a raison d’être and are currently leading the way among prospectors?

Less and less often you hear about real knobs in which the main organ was hearing and only hearing. An experienced Seeker/Detector will add something else… separation among the iron. Yes, this is the only solution that limited the iron masking effect of non-ferrous objects.

The test below shows the Nexus MPV3 and a coin covered with various types of nails. Already in the first stage of the test, 99% of digital devices, even from the top shelf for over 10,000. PLN is not able to repeat this test!!!

What happens in the second part does not even require a comment. This cannot be done on any other device. Remember that this detector has full discrimination!

Minelab Manticore how to use the stabilizer

The power into the ground is the same with or without All Metal enabled. The difference would be in how the received signal is processed after being received. In this regard, there is a detection difference when using All Metal or Discrimination.

There is always a trade-off with metal detectors when deploying additional features such as discrimination.
Having no discrimination, no ferrous limits and no stabilizer set combined with the lowest recovery speed will yield the greatest detection depth in perfect ground conditions. In most real ground conditions these minimal settings are not ideal and they will often need to be deployed to some extent to the optimize experience.

If your detecting environment is suitable to detect in All Metal, that would be the best option.

An alternative and widely accepted method would be to detect with the optimal settings of discrimination/FE Limits then switch to All Metal using the horseshoe to interrogate any signal response further. Likewise, engaging Pin-Point for any still ‘iffy’ targets can also yield good results when questioning the response because Pinpoint removes all post-processing and the detector works with the raw response from the coil. This can be good in identifying iron more clearly before digging.

Yes, the stabilizer does have an impact on overall detection depth and it should be used only when iron falsing is problematic. In cases where the Stabiliser function is required the trade-off of a slightly reduced detection depth is worth it as such a location would otherwise be producing so many false signals that you’d have to significantly reduce Sensitivity to detect comfortably. That reduction of Sensitivity would reduce detection depth more than enabling the Stabiliser function to run a higher Sensitivity.

It was to be expected that XP would release something new, the expectations were high. Have I been disappointed personally? Why? For a simple reason, two-box is not in my area of interest, one, because I have a Nexus Pathfinder, which is unbeatable, and two, I was hoping for a new probe. Such HF for XP DEUS II would be something but to the point.

In the video preview below, we see a very cool, wireless device weighing 2.9 kg. Knowing the build quality of the XP it will be a hit, but what about the performance? First of all, wireless technology makes no sense in such a device for finding large artifacts. A complete waste of time, and secondly, the SMF device will be very susceptible to EMI interference, especially wireless ones! This is how it is and it is visible in the SMF field, because it works at a minimum of two frequencies and at the same time swallows interference like a pelican catches a fish. You will not find this in PI or IB devices. They are simply quiet and stable even in the vicinity of transmitters or under transmission lines. A big drawback. The manufacturer declares work stability, but he has different soil conditions in mind, from high mineralization to salty substrates. It also promises to discriminate against medium-sized and iron objects, which is a plus.

So how does this relate to reality, separating the marketing gibberish?! The truth is cruel. The new XP products will not have the performance of IB or Pi devices. It’s not that class of possibilities. I would treat it more as a goodie and an extension of the offer, although I do not rule out this idea. The static itself in the XP DEUS I model was simply brilliant, although very few people used it. It can be similar here, we will see how identification and discrimination, because it can be the proverbial game changer. Everything is in the hands of programmers.

Minelab Manticore and Multi IQ+ technology

The first outing with Minelab Manticore was not successful. I had considerable doubts. After all, the price is about 10 thousand. PLN does its job and we have above-average expectations. The detector frighteningly distorted the color and no change and raising the iron limits (FERROUS LIMITS), or lowering the sensitivity and ground calibration did anything. I was stuck. I tried various ways to deal with the change in reactivity and frequent detuning, but it did not bring the expected results. The device was unstable and it was difficult to figure out what was the correct signal from the target, and what was ground interference and color-distorting iron.

Yes, the place is very difficult, and not because of the soil, which is easy and sandy, but because of the amount of iron in it. Minelab Manticore requires a bit more knowledge and experience from the user than devices from the lower price range. Here you have to think hard about what program we will choose for the prevailing conditions and how we will set it. In my case, I decided to change the program from a FAST setting to LOW CONDUCTORS. So low guides. Why? Old and fine silver has a very low ID and is located right next to iron.

The next step was to determine the iron ranges (FERROUS LIMITS), here the matter is not so simple. Low value more color distortion but less masking. I decided to set the upper value for fine iron – such as nails – to 6. This is slightly less than factory 7. The extreme version is 4, but I do not recommend it at the beginning, maybe when you get used to the equipment. It gives amazing results.

Recovery speed is a parameter responsible for the separation. Here I stayed with factory 5, and sometimes I use 6 in a place with more traffic 😉 Higher value, better separation of objects and more stability, less range. At low values, you have to sweep slower and the equipment becomes less stable. Fortunately, we can influence this with the speed of the sweep. When we come across a garbage can – we slow down, and when it’s clean we can easily speed up. Patience and experience, humility, and there will be results!

It remains to set the sensitivity. The principle is always the same as in other detectors. We go up and watch how the detector behaves. Unstable work, we have to go down. Along the way, we do NOISE CANCEL, i.e. scanning channels to look for the best one. We can combine this with the sensitivity adjustment and choose the right setting. It is worth holding the interference reset button longer until you get one repeatable channel after each scan. In the case of Manitcor, the algorithm analyzes the interference and selects the best channel for the given operating frequencies selected with the program.

Audio. What audio to choose in a place where iron and its natural oxidation make even shallow objects practically inaudible?! I chose the ENHANCED option with noise reduction and it was a hit. Finally, the number of tones. It has been known for a long time that simple audio is the best in a dump or among the iron. One ton fell. Modulation? I chose SIMPLE, which is the smallest difference between a strong and a weak signal. Why? A large value for the MEDIUM or RICH parameter makes it easy to get lost with a large number of different signals, especially high tones from piercing iron. We want to check every signal and not miss anything!

Ground calibration remained at 0, although tracking did not introduce significant changes. The maximum corrected value is 2. The device cannot be manually adjusted by the pumping process here – too much iron!

Let’s go back to the results obtained, and this one completely knocked me off my feet! The spot I passed through revived and began to produce signals that were previously inaudible to other devices, and I spent almost two years in this place! It’s a strange feeling to pull stuff next to your pits and footprints … MultiIQ+ software Minelab does the job in combination with very fast hardware. The sensation is shocking when the detector separates the masked signals with the iron and the 2D graph becomes a checking tool. How to do it? The matter is simple because it is very easy to distinguish interference from iron and ground in the ENHANCED audio. In case of additional doubts, we look at the chart and rotate over the target by 90 degrees. In this case, after rotation, the TARGET TRACE signal in the conductivity axis, signaling the so-called color returns to iron. The chart gives us amazing opportunities to check the signal. For example, it shows large iron objects masking low conductors, small iron showing color, but also a pair of different objects next to each other. The dominant of the stronger signal changes with the change of position over the object. It’s just brilliant! If we add interference, mineralization, and different types of conductivity, we have a full picture of the possibilities!

Finally, is the detector worth 10,000? zloty? Certainly not in this country. We simply cannot afford it and no matter how good the ratio of our earnings to price is, it is unacceptable. Too bad no one talks about it!

Nexus vs rest of the world

The race is on for the best, free flashlights, vibrations, water resistance, 50% more power, 2D, 3D, and 6D graphs … thousands of slogans and advertisements attack us from every side. What do we get in return?! Often the same thing just in a slightly different package. Do you know this feeling? In a good restaurant, the old proven pork chop served with mun mushrooms and mars fern moss looks like an exotic and unknown dish. After the first bite, reality returns…

In all this, Nexus Detectors seems like a relic of the past. Old, but well-made knob detectors remind us of the years that are behind us. Nothing could be more wrong, because inside there is electronics that is light years ahead of everything we know!!

Advertisement?! You’ll find out soon, some people will pick up their jaw from the floor or buy hemorrhoid ointment, such burning can’t be endured without anesthesia!!!

Ok, relax, the working time on ten batteries is not overwhelming, but you can always change them in the field, the weight, depending on the probe, is survivable, because the balance is great. Yes, it is not equipment for beginners, although they will master it with a little patience.

Why am I so excited like a pedophile in a toy store?! The reason is simple – a performance that other manufacturers can only dream of. Depth and stability of work are unattainable by any other device! I write this with full responsibility! There is a video at the end of this article that shows it all in detail, but it’s nothing compared to full EMI immunity and virtually no iron masking! No other device has such capabilities and it is not a minimal difference, it is a gap that the leading manufacturers have not been able to overcome for years and do not even come close to a meter.

What will we see in the movie? A very interesting test of a small coin close to the nail, so interesting that it cannot be repeated on any other device. The minted silver coin, however, is a low conductor and lies close to the iron on the conductivity axis, but is not masked by it!

Another test is a mass of aluminum tear-offs from cans and a coin also without a problem. Tests did not in the air but on the ground full of iron in the so-called. 3D configuration. Total shock, it looks like a completely impossible thing to do on another, even the latest metal detector!!! Yes, it’s a single operating frequency in addition.

Masked with iron

In times of constant struggle for customers, manufacturers use various tricks to gain our interest. Ultimately, it ends with the fact that in the field we are left to rely only on ourselves and our skills as well as the knowledge and help of friends.

Depth is only one piece of the puzzle, and the real problem is iron, and, like a metal detector, can see other objects we desire through it. Masking with iron or other conductors is essential, we put the depth in the background, because in extreme conditions it is of secondary importance, when the signal of the nail covers the coin. For this reason, not every detector is suitable for working in such conditions. Most of the equipment drastically loses performance and in places of old settlements, it simply stops working. What is on the surface is not a major problem, unfortunately, objects located deeper and 5-10 cm in extreme conditions are completely invisible. By adding high mineralization of the soil and iron in the form of forged, rusty nails, sediment left after their decomposition, and modern garbage, we reach the limited state of metal detectors. It is possible that these are extreme situations that most of you will not experience, but I and my friends have come to work in such conditions. I do not consider this a disadvantage at all, because such a forge of skills is much more than a test track set up for video tests. There’s no rebate here, we don’t know how to overlap the target, and the muscle memory effect doesn’t work.

Many years ago at the Detectival rally in the UK, Garry the face of XP Metal Detectors showed me the difference between an HF (high frequency) probe – the popular ellipse for DEUSA, and a regular probe. It was a dazzle. Thin gold hammered coins and small medieval silver coins were apparently absent from the low-frequency probe, and when we add iron to the mix, we have the answer! Sometime later I managed to check it from the practical side. As we know, higher frequencies are more “tuned” to iron. They can respond to them with much better speed. Higher frequency (general) allows for better iron ID identification…with slightly less color distortion!

Higher frequencies can detect low conductors with better speed/efficiency and ease. (If the silver coin’s ID is downgraded to the foil ID range…. due to nails nearby… higher frequencies will help to “see” the foil). Higher frequencies are attenuated to a lesser extent by ground mineralization. Lower frequencies, on the other hand, correspond less with iron. It is harder for them to detect iron and will “ghost” to a greater extent, they are more attuned to higher conductors. A smaller probe reaches a shallower depth; but…. it may have a longer range… due to its ability to “see between” targets better.

For this reason, we return to the old and good proven equipment, which is the XP Deus with the HF probe. For all other conditions, HF may not be a perfect solution!

Wasp nest

Someone put a stick in a wasp’s nest, and this time it could turn out great for us Detectives. Meryll accused Minelab of fraud in the form of an unfulfilled promise in the form of 50% more power generated on the probe winding, admitted that he would verify this data in confrontation with the manufacturer, this is not only his opinion but also a few other users. As I wrote in the previous article, it does not matter to me, because the depth is just one element of the entire detector and it is not the only one, besides it does not have to work in the form of standards limiting devices and it is possible that the manufacturer circumvented it in a different way… well, unless it does not meet these standards … it’s even better for us!

Fortunately, Minelab reacted and decided to clarify all the disputed information in the next video on the channel of our colleague from the USA. Well done to chief engineer Mark Lawrie. It promises to be an interesting discussion, maybe for the first time we will get some interesting information about the technology of this leading Australian manufacturer.

Has Minelab lied to its users?

One American YouTuber started a war claiming that Minelab lied to users by claiming 50% more power in the Manticor, which does not comply with the FCC standards listed with the device. To be more precise, the point is that the data declared by the manufacturer does not show that the device is stronger than the upper limit of the standard, i.e. 30 dBm, and this also applies to the previous Equinox model and many others from the Australian offer.

Without going into details, it doesn’t necessarily work the way it’s presented. Electromagnetic field, radio waves, who cares? In fact, the equipment has to be efficient, effective, and within financial reach.

Finally, the mania of depth. What matters to me is separation and working in an area overburdened with iron and garbage. You know too strong lights in the fog and we are blinded. Then there’s the ease of learning, handling, manufacturer support, and price.

Will we get a much better device for almost PLN 10,000?! No, and absolutely not, it’s not a revolution, it’s a well-made metal detector, unfortunately at a price unaffordable for most Seekers!

Why no YT channel seriously mentions this is hard to say. It’s like comparing the Manticore to other cheaper devices. Does it beat them in every way? No!

Weight and ergonomics are much cheaper. Performance? They are similar, often the difference is 2-3 cm, and the price is 150% higher.

So who should spend this money and why? Geeks and experienced users who want to set up the equipment only after themselves and the conditions prevailing at the search site. They are the recipient of such detectors. Let’s remember that in Poland legally investing in equipment does not translate into profits … anyway, the difference is made by a good place, experience, and equipment at the very end. In reverse, it doesn’t make sense!

I have a strange feeling that the world of metal detectors is stuck at a certain point. We have been waiting for spectacular changes for years and they are not coming… maybe they are coming differently, but on a different scale than we expected.

Minelab Manticore or XP DEUS II are really good devices, but do they bring anything groundbreaking apart from the dose of well-known solutions?

Certainly, SMF devices are better than what we know from the past, but they are also not without their flaws. The advantages include stable operation in more difficult conditions and better ID compared to single-frequency devices. More accurate signaling of objects from both ends of the scale – low and high conductors. This makes detection easier. This makes detection easier, e.g. old and fine silver is the beginning of the scale close to iron, while large is its other end in SMF, it works really well.

What disadvantages? Less resistance to EMI interference – after all, we work in a wider frequency range and slightly worse performance when it comes to depth.

In my case, I always choose an advantage in the form of better identification and separation in iron, and this can be different, opinions are divided here.

It must be remembered that such a Nexus MPV3 is completely immune to EMI interference, which makes it much deeper and, after adding the adaptive speed of separating the target, insurmountable … unfortunately, you have to pay for it and it is a device for conscious detectorists. It is not light and consumes 10 AA batteries in a short time. Something for something as they say.

We also have the Tarsacci MDT 8000 with hybrid PI and VLF technology. A mix of pulse device performance and VLF discrimination. The detector is really deep and works great in iron or with magnetic stones. Unfortunately, target signaling and its interpretation is no more difficult than in VLF and SMF devices.

It’s better, multi-frequency detectors are more stable. Such a good old Whites Spectra, using three frequencies, is much shallower and very susceptible to interference. It will not separate as well, especially in iron. In addition, under high-voltage lines, there is no chance and nothing will change it, no change of settings.

It remains to wait and watch what the next years will bring, I know that it will be interesting, that’s for sure.

Nokta Makro The Legend pairing problem with BT headphones

After updating the software to 1.09 and updating the Bluetooth module, the detector does not see the factory wireless headphones. What should I do? First, press the mode button and the upper side button from the volume control (the place where the sticker with the subtitles and the flashing LED is located), after 3 seconds you will hear two silent signals. The headphones are unpaired.

Then the detector, set the BT icon to 1 plus press the pinpoint button until the letters: FD appears on the screen. Then all headphones were unpaired. We are waiting for it to connect, if not, turn off both devices and turn them on again!

Minelab Manticore is a mythomaniac dream

Minelab announced the birth of a new detector called Manticore some time ago. The hype is huge and the expectations are even higher. It is true that the Yankees laugh at the new name, but they raise the bar extremely high, after all, the successor of Equinox or its improved version must live up to expectations.

Well, the price of almost PLN 10,000 is a pure abstraction only for a few and I want to laugh watching on YouTube when storytellers tell how good the device will be. They probably have a hunch… or the cards say so 😉

The truth is that we know absolutely nothing and despite the numerous shows of the Minelab team traveling around Europe, we know even less … After all, the show must go on and that’s what modern marketing is all about. Announcement Announcement?! Why not … that’s what Minelab did and exactly on December 1, 2022, in a moment we will find out about another piece of news … and what!!! How to have fun! The Americans say it’s fun at the customer’s expense. We’ll see.

Everyone is excited about the new 2D system based on Target Trace known from the Minelab CTX3030 model, but this is a completely different matter and the similarity here is purely marketing. Both detectors are different technology and way of managing and displaying an ID. A new opportunity has opened up for a wide identification of iron, which is good, but how it will really work and on what basis it will turn out in the field. The ability to distinguish between large and small iron is a big plus, and the extended scale may also allow better separation of low conductors from high ones. The question is what will happen when there is a pair of them under the probe? How the software will work. Questions and more questions.

Speculation continues. Numerous Equinox experts are already making screenshots for equipment together. I will not be a hypocrite I ordered myself … I’m curious too.

Unfortunately, as in the case of XP DEUSA II, it takes a few months in the field – other tests are just dreams of storytellers who buy equipment one day to sell it the next. Best of all, they don’t put any effort into learning, they assume it’s supposed to be like that, and they borrow the detector for a day or two, so what kind of reliability are we talking about here?!

I watch numerous comparisons in laboratory conditions on the test track … and I want to laugh. People are commenting on a device they don’t know and haven’t spent several hundred hours with! They assume that the borrower has such knowledge and has set it up well, and on this basis, they make an assessment! So they don’t know the detector themselves and they can’t even set it!!! They don’t even know what function it has and how it differs from others!!! So what kind of tests and credibility or reliability are we talking about?!

In a simple way, they implement untruths, for those less grasped they have a story about numerous data in Excel tables. Spells mary grandma’s wife see you soon. It’s in its purest form treating the recipient like a moron, nothing more.

There is also a lot of repetition, I am a master, I understand this equipment, etc., I mastered it to perfection, it is to confirm the leader himself in his perfection and it is in vain to look for field tests or demonstrations and explanations of individual functions and settings. Goebbels himself said that a lie repeated many times becomes the truth. And so it is in this case.

It is a waste of time to produce fairy tales and tell nonsense that others swallow like pelicans. You have to redo it yourself to understand it, put in time and money and an infinite amount of work. Time is priceless nowadays. All the rest is an addition, on which various more or less autistic megalomania and mythomania prey… or maybe it’s Asperger transmitted by droplets? I do not know.

Minelab Equinox 700 and 900 the fish rots from the head

Has become. Minelab announced new models… Equinox 700 and 900. That’s how they did it… they refreshed the line. So what do we get and how is the new model different?!

A flashlight has arrived, vibrations, a wider ID scale, improved ergonomics, a scale for iron from -1 to 0, and for higher conductors from 1 to 99. They went crazy.

Looking soberly, the changes are cosmetic beyond the scale, but how about the price, in our country, it is the dominant factor. Let’s see what the difference is … GBP 799 for the 700 version and GBP 1099 for the 900 version. This means at the current exchange rate of PLN 4354 and PLN 5989 net …

To sum up, PLN 5,356 and PLN 7,367. Is it supposed to be an alternative to the almost PLN 10,000 Manticore and a response to the fans of the brand who said that someone exaggerated the price? This is how the mouth closes efficiently. Pure marketing. You can not afford it?! Buy yourself a cheaper one… see what we have prepared for you. A slight facelift and refreshed device can be yours.

How does the price compare to the competition? The answer is simple. Miserably. It’s cheaper than Manticore but still expensive. Adding a few goodies won’t make us justify 20% more. There is no chance, although the manufacturer was based on this assumption.

Maybe it’s a matter of prejudice, but Equinox has never convinced me and many of my colleagues feel the same way. After a year of use, I got rid of the device without much regret. It is possible that it was a mistake, but compared to the old XP DEUS model, Whites Spectra or decent DeepTech analogs, I did not see any greater depth, better identification, or stable work.

It is possible that the new models are much better, but I see no reason to be interested in them. Whether this is a mistake time will tell.

Coming back to the prices, well, we live in such no other conditions and only a few can afford expensive devices above PLN 2,500. It is worth remembering and reminding each time because it is not the individual who indicates the goal, but the majority.

Which pinpointer to choose?

What pinpointer picks a mole? As a rule, the answer we hear is the cheapest one, a large error. The tools should be of good quality, and so should the additional detector for precise tracking of objects in the hole.

Whether it will be waterproof is another matter, but above all, it must be easy to use and effective.

Here you can forget about effective cheap devices. Chinese counterfeits of key brands somehow work there, but it is a chocolate-like product. Difficult to track, poor performance, few features, and poor quality. Waste of time. Someone who used branded equipment knows that it is an investment for years and it is worth adding so as not to be nervous later in the field.

The topic of whether a pinpointer is needed at all can be postponed. Is. It makes work easier and saves time. It’s worth having such a tool, period and end.

What else to pay attention to? First, is the power source. Built-in rechargeable batteries or replaceable batteries. As I know from experience, we will not charge an empty battery in the middle of the forest, just like we will not buy a battery. Both solutions have their drawbacks.

Vibrations, sound, and a flashlight are now standard in devices of this type, but volume control or sound type is not necessary. Some models have the option of wireless communication with the detector or wireless headphones. This is a very useful feature. We automatically hear the pinpointer sound when turned on, and when the metal detector audio is turned off.

The battery charge indicator is useful to avoid problems and disappointment. As a rule, it works by flashing the flashlight diode or changing its color.

Our mole should also have a cover for the parts, which we bury passionately in the soil, we will avoid the costly replacement of the housing, which is the majority of the price of the entire device.

Tenderness can be our friend as well as our enemy. Why? Too high causes interference and reduces the stability of work, too small makes the detector insensitive to small artifacts – such as micro jewelry, which can be of great importance when searching on the beach.

A good quality holster or lanyard will protect the device against loss, and the lost notification system will allow you to try to find the device in a stalemate.

Finally, an important tip, some pinpointers can interfere with the detector. It’s worth checking it out before buying.

Depth or separation?

Depth or separation? The eternal question and sleepless nights. I choose to separate objects because this is the most crucial thing in the places where I am able to search. The race for a few inches leads to nothing constructive, but the ability to see in iron does. Scrap heavily masks targets, and it’s not big objects and nails, but also decay dust – its condensed oxides!

The electronics of the detector have to process a lot of signals in a moment, and if we add other conductors to this, the time to generate a signal is very short. Larger signals effectively cover the response of small objects – higher conductors.

The level of mineralization of the substrate, the sweep angle, the conduct of the probe, and the frequency of work are important. All this has a dramatic effect on the effects. Wrongly selected detector and incorrectly set, and there is no chance for any effects. I have experienced this many times and it was very painful. A change in approach, improved probe guidance, and higher operating frequency, and we begin to hear signals previously unavailable.

So what is my recipe for a lot of iron? It depends on many parameters, but to simplify … a higher separation speed of the so-called recovery speed, higher operating frequency, lower sensitivity to conditions, and lower discrimination. Slower sweep, still parallels to the ground. You can also raise the probe slightly up … so if we are fighting with large disturbances from the ground. It will be shallower this way, but we will hear objects that we had no idea about before.

Finally, you can use a single high-frequency operation, an adaptive refresh rate device (Nexus MP V3), or a hybrid PI/VLF detector (Tarsacci MDT), but who can afford that?!
