Whites Spectra uncompromising detector

Whites Spectra is a unique metal detector. Complicated to use at first glance, but giving amazing configuration options. Why is it so special?

Firstly, it is a detector working in three frequencies at once, and secondly, it has a mixed mode, not like the RUTUS in the mono version, but a stereophonic one. What does it give? Both static and dynamic channels work simultaneously and are not switched between each other as happens in the mono version. We hear all the time about the multiplicity of depth and types of targets. It’s hard to miss items and we know what we have under the probe. This is a great comfort of work and if we add to it great identification, this device, despite its age and not very high speed of object separation, is still an unsurpassed model for many manufacturers.

There are also disadvantages, apart from the above-mentioned complication, the weight of the entire device and the color display are not very visible in direct sunlight. It is true that the Sharps LCD has great contrast and good backlighting, but it will not be at the level that black and white screens give.

Another problem is the power source. Factory batteries last literally for a while and are a pain to use and charge. Much better to switch to a pack of 18650 lithium-ion cells (3 pcs.) and an electronic charger. I use such a set myself and the working time is three times longer. I bought a basket for three such cells and designed and printed the housing.

The factory seat post is also not the most comfortable, but you can easily adjust something lighter.

The work itself and the ability to configure after each other give virtually unlimited possibilities. The initial learning about the equipment, it requires a lot of patience and perseverance as well as knowledge of the English language. Dedicating a few months to learning pays off in the field in the form of better identification, easier fastening on the target, and not tiring work. Fewer random sounds are also a big plus.

The ability to configure allows you to adapt to many scenarios and types of searched objects. The separation of software and hardware settings as well as filters allows you to configure the detector for yourself also in terms of audio or displayed ID and pictograms and ending with colors. This is something unheard of nowadays.

The V3i version allows you to use the XY plot option for additional item identification. We see as many as 3 frequencies in a graphic form, which allows you to better determine the conductivity and type of metal in some approximation. Even XP has used this in the XP DEUS I and DEUS II models.

The last thing is the depth indicator. Not as graphic as we know it now, but in cm and all the time in a dynamic mode without the need to track how it was done on other devices. In this simple way, we can distinguish what is surface garbage and what is a valuable item lying much deeper.

Bob Canaday, the late creator of the Whites Spectra, was undoubtedly a genius, and it’s a pity that none of the current metal detector companies have undertaken to continue his legacy.

DeepTech Vista Gold Hound is really worth it

DeepTech replaces Tesoro in the production of typical knob metal detectors. While the build quality of the US manufacturer was higher, the electronics and its work are definitely better on the side of the Bulgarian manufacturer.

The latest Vista Gold Hound model is a traditional two-tone detector with the added threshold function. The device is fabulously simple and convenient to use. Low iron tone, high color.

It doesn’t take much time, just turn it on and everything becomes easy. We start with setting a stable level of sensitivity, and ground calibration, and end with adjusting the threshold, which is actually an additional filter that stabilizes the work and allows you to suppress ground disturbances or, on the other hand, strengthen the ghost signals.

Gold Hound works at 30 kHz and is extremely stable. No crackling, squeaking, or false response from the soil. It really makes a big impression. Two simple signals and we know everything.

I had the opportunity to compare it with other detectors in a place with high mineralization and a huge amount of iron. Gold Hound reigns in terms of working comfort. It is stable and the signals are clear and sure, no dilemma about whether to dig or not. It fastens perfectly on the targets and gives additional information in the form of a low tone if we are dealing with corrosion. The break signal is not uniform and changes over time, it can also be quieter and give a distortion effect for very deep objects.

There are also disadvantages. No double discrimination makes us dig every color. This is a big plus, we won’t miss anything, unfortunately, it’s a problem in a large dumpster. In this case, DeepTech Vista X has the advantage of double discrimination, of which we can be sure to some extent.

Another problem is the frequency of operation … the device is really one of the deepest that we have working at 30 kHz and to such an extent that it can easily compete with 14 kHz! Yes! High mineralization and iron are not a problem, but clutter and small, thin plaques are. They strike like big coins and there is no difference in audio.

On a good spot, this detector is real gold, thin silver coins that most high-end toys do not signal. No problem! Vista Gold Hound will separate even the most masked objects in the area of rusty nails.

For extreme places, you can buy a SuperSix probe. This small sniper rifle, as the name suggests, will allow you to reach difficult places, with such iron condensation, where other detectors simply cannot process signals.

Coins like mushrooms after rain

The weather always affects the effect of the search and there is no need to cheat. Rain and temperature change the behavior of devices. Sony tends to drift and to put it bluntly, they lose their properties. The result is a decrease in ranges and false signals and interference from the ground. I mean extreme summer temperatures because some manufacturers have been using compensation for the temperature influence on the work of the detector probe for some time.

So how do you defend yourself in such a situation? It’s best to reduce the sensitivity or try ground balance again, even manually for added confidence. There’s an old trick left… we raise the probe above the ground and don’t drive it low. Let’s say 5 cm – 10 cm is the absolute minimum. You may find it much quieter and more stable, and the targets lock in the ID scale better and don’t jump.

Detuning or changing the frequency can also be a solution in this situation. In the end, it remains to wait for the rain, just like mushrooms after rain, previously unheard or immeasurable objects begin to appear.

Expensive or cheap equipment?

Many of us make a mistake at the very beginning and choose the wrong equipment. The detector should be adapted directly to the conditions that prevail at the workplace as well as expectations regarding the finds. Half the poverty when we are looking for ordinary places without a lot of iron or civilization garbage. In such places, ordinary simple equipment for a few hundred zlotys is enough.

The problem begins when the soil is highly mineralized and we have a high content of iron, ceramics, turf ores, and coke. It turns out that ordinary equipment does not work at all. Did not work. Half the trouble is when we are able to determine it organoleptically and it can be seen from the behavior of the detector. The device energizes, the depth of detection decreases, the ID signaling simply does not work, and the excess iron causes the device to clog and shift in the scale of rusty corrosion to the range of high conductors such as silver. swept away. You can hang the equipment on a peg. There is no topic.

Fortunately, there are several ways to avoid problems. It is known that it is best to buy a high-end detector such as Tarsacci MDT 8000 or XP DEUS II … but who can afford such extravagance nowadays?

We start from scratch. If our equipment has the All Metal mode, we start it immediately. Discrimination is the enemy of every Seeker. End and period. In this way, we improve the performance and the electronics have fewer signals to filter, it is faster and there is less chance that we will miss something. We also start to sweep slower and more accurately. Surveying is fundamental. We assume every move and absolutely parallel to the ground.

Too much interference and false signals? We detune and reduce the sensitivity. It is also worth raising the probe a little higher. Sometimes it helps, also in the case of searching for signals on the surface – a lost wedding ring.

App. Yes, application. I send furious Janusz with the police syndrome to hell. The application is not a record of the services, but a help for you. What? Simple, we see how much we’ve walked and what signals were shown in a given place. You can observe the concentration of finds. You don’t have to upload photos, just a letter marker of the item. On this basis, it is known where to return with other equipment and or improve with the help of the selected program or a new set of settings.

Ground calibration. Just as important as detuning from EMI interference. The basis, the essence of working with the detector. Done right is a chance for success, screwed up is time wasted. Firstly, we look for a clean place, secondly, we double-check. When calibrating, we look at the values, compare, go to another place and try again. Correct identification and depth of detection depend on it. The measurement value tells us what conditions we can face.

Mineralization index. Not every metal detector has it. We check what it shows, and on this basis we are able to predict how much we will lose performance in this place and how to set the equipment exactly.

In the end, there’s always a fat wallet. Does the place produce? Are there results? It’s worth investing in better equipment! Multi-frequency device or in t hybrid technology, pulsed? Why not! Such solutions allow you to break through the iron layer in a more effective way. Equipment doesn’t have to cost a fortune. All the time on the market we will find garage producers who can work wonders. Currently, PI impulse detectors have discrimination and identification, it does not work as well as in popular VLF devices, but it allows you to reopen old places that apparently do not produce anything new!

No one would have believed a few years ago that the so-called. the frames will be in a version with full discrimination and in IB technology. Looking for a big color? No problem, a good example is Pathfinder Nexus, described in one of the articles of this blog.

NEXUS Pathfinder V2 hellish frame with discrimination

The frame detector or the popularly known frame is a really great solution for the big game, but unfortunately also very demanding when it comes to the application itself. Everything has to be carefully thought out because the choice is wide and the possibilities are practically unlimited.

The NEXUS company needs no introduction. This is the world of analog detectors, unreasonably expensive, complicated, and IB technology.

So what is the difference between NEXUS products and others, apart from the quality of workmanship? In addition to performance, this type of two-box allows for quick movement over rough terrain and can only be operated by one person. It has discrimination and we are free to choose the type of guide we are looking for! Color or iron and smooth adjustment. Story!

YouTube player

Brilliant solution, considering that with a probe size of 20 inches, we see objects the size of soda cans and larger! There is no problem with small garbage that can make life unbearably difficult. To this, we will add a choice of operating modes: static and dynamic, ground calibration, and mineralization compensation. The extreme amount of iron is not a hindrance, and the device is made of aluminum and carbon fiber and can be quickly folded. The weight is about 4.5 kg, quite bearable.

Finally, the speed of work and we have a really nice daemon that is handy and easy to use. What is the voltage on the probes, I’m afraid to ask, and the large heat sink below the control panel is impressive. Below is a table presenting the capabilities of the Nexus Pathfinder V2.

XP DEUS II PROGRAM OMRELIC

The RELIC program in the new XP DEUS II detector is a kind of Holy Grail because it works on a completely different principle than other programs. It is closer to the Gold Field version, which is a typical program for searching for gold nuggets, also known as the ORX model. The multi-frequency characteristics do the job, especially in iron. The frequency oscillates around 24 kHz, which is optimal even on the more difficult ground and there is no great loss of depth.

IAR discrimination works by size rejection of the iron signal, but you can read about it elsewhere on my blog or watch a video on my Youtube channel. I recommend the XP DEUS II playlist for dummies!

YouTube player

So how do you properly set up the RELIC program to go really deep? We know it’s the deepest program next to DEEP HC, but how to squeeze more out of it? In the beginning, you choose the REACTIVITY responsible for the separation of objects. For me, the starting point is 1.5. For more cluttered places, I recommend 2 or even 3. A higher value means less performance when it comes to depth, but better separate objects. Here you have to adjust everything to the place and quantity – the intensity of the signals. Along the way, we set the sensitivity to the level of stable operation, we scan the channels so that the device automatically selects the most stable operating range.

The volume of the iron, the lead signal is already a personal preference, as is the amplification of weak signals. It is worth leaving the factory settings as the default. The leading signal THRESHOLD we need to raise a bit (software version 0.71).

We come to the most important thing – IAR discrimination. Here I set a maximum value of 3 to avoid losing low and fine gold guides, above this value, we risk more. A higher parameter gives less low signals and guarantees more stable operation. By entering the EXPERT tab, we can set NOTCH. In this case, it is a kind of audio discrimination that does not affect the performance of the detector, but unfortunately, very deep signals can give a value of 00 on the display. Fortunately, we will only lose the audio and the values are still displayed. It is important because 00 is a value close to the reading of the soil and also ceramics, which is a testimony of human presence in a given area.

You can always use NOTCH, it increases the comfort of work and translates into results. If the signals are bothering you, you can try to set the range from 00-06. You will not be overloaded with signals from rusty iron and over-response of the soil. There is always a risk of losing items masked next to this value, deep without ID as I wrote above. It is worth choosing settings for a given scenario or a search strategy you have developed in a given place.

Battery and metal detectors

Nowadays, detectors have integrated batteries, is it good or bad, and how to care for this type of solution? Find out in the article below.

Modern power sources are already mostly integrated into the device. Field exchange is not possible. For some, it’s a disadvantage, because you have to remember to charge before going out, on the other hand, going for replaceable batteries in the middle of nowhere can often be completely futile, and we don’t always remember to take or check spare ones. The disadvantage can also be the number of charging devices. Such XP DEUS has a link in the probe, wireless headphones, and in the RC control panel … it’s a lot, although there is always an alternative, if the headphones are discharged, we have a panel and a loudspeaker, if vice versa, only headphones, and limited settings options.

You can always take a power bank with you or recharge it in the car, but it also takes time. Both solutions have some disadvantages, but what about the durability of such internal batteries? This is where electronics come in handy. Internal circuits manage the charging cycle. The service life is several hundred or more cycles, so it will be enough for some time, and the manufacturer provides for replacement, which can be done on your own or commissioned to the service.

How to charge? As I mentioned above, everything is managed by electronics, and the power of the charger affects only the time of the process itself. The USB standard reigns, so the matter is simple, we are looking for a connector or a charger. For your own safety, it is worth taking care of a good quality solution. YouTube is full of videos of spectacular fires of cheap USB chargers!

The detectors have charging indicators and the process itself takes a few hours, but what is the best way to check if the detector is charged when there is no such indicator or it does not work properly? In a very simple way. We touch the charger. Cold means the process is finished, warm means that we have to wait a little longer.

How often should we charge our detector? After every exit? Always connected? How to store?! The principle is simple. We discharge to 20% not to the end, so as not to burden the cell thermally, overheating drastically shortens its life. Charge to 80-100% capacity. During storage, the battery should not be more than 80% and less than 20%. It’s always worth checking. We will avoid problems in the future.

The replacement itself is not complicated for most solutions, although there are some that require a few gymnastics. For example, XP has a battery built inside the probe, which brings the problem of cutting the resin and refilling it after changing it. Fortunately, there are kits with instructions and there is nothing to worry about if we have a minimum of motor skills.

At the very end, the type of removable batteries. It’s not an easy topic. The market is full of substitutes. The simple rule is only branded and from proven sellers. Cheap cells do not work or only work for a while and fail at the worst possible moment. It is also important to check whether the device will work well with the batteries. They have a slightly lower operating voltage (they last for a shorter time than alkaline ones) and the electronics can play tricks on us, incorrectly signaling the moment of discharge. Strange behavior, and lack of stability of work and ranges are also not uncommon in such a situation. It is worth checking in the documentation attached to the detector what can and cannot be done.

3D imaging for whom?

Who needs 3D imaging? Is it useful at all in normal searches?

And yes and no… The reason is simple, it is quite a hindrance, which requires some knowledge and imposes a work regime. First of all, we need to properly configure the data logger and metal detector set, and not everyone is suitable for this. It is best to have the device working in static mode with VCO modulation. What does it mean? The tone changes – intensifies and weakens over the target, something like the so-called tracking function. Pinpoint in a dynamic detector. There is also the connection – wiring and signal calibration.

A good device is an equipment working as a PI or pulse induction – pulse detector. The advantage is the performance and stable operation on difficult ground, and the disadvantage is the lack of discrimination. It should be remembered that the imaging will concern rather larger objects. It depends on the probe, of course, but drawing the shapes of coins is rather pointless. We are interested in larger objects and such devices indicate this. The upside is that it’s the little bits that are omitted. It can be safely assumed that the 2×2 meter frame probe signals well objects the size of a can or larger.

The shape, approximate size, and depth are really good information. In an urbanized area, working with this type of device is more difficult due to evidence of human presence and infrastructure, such as pipes or wires. The advantage is also the visualization of empty spaces, such as basements, cavities, etc. A great solution for non-invasive research, site checking, and for commercial documentation of sites.

Currently produced devices, such as the GDI Icon 3D data logger we offer, are a fully wireless solution, for which a simple tablet based on the Android system is enough. If such a set is compared even with the finished Nokta Makro Invenio PRO product, it is 1/3 of the price and we have the option of choosing a detector with which the data logger works and thus slightly better performance, although at the cost of lack of discrimination.

In the end, there is the work regime, after the settings related to the type of detector and probe, select the sweep pattern. The software gives voice messages, and we follow the commands, i.e. we move at a certain time over a certain distance. It is worth marking the route with tape or plastic markers.

In the end, it remains to analyze the data in the form of a 3D chart and enjoy the results of our work!

XP DEUS I and DEUS II which is better?

The flood of films about the advantage of DEUS I over DEUS II amused me a hundred times. Customers don’t know what to do… wait or buy?! In addition, there are also software updates, which cause a flood of extreme comments about the version that works and which does not. Complete confusion and chaos.

The first spline is a proven generation of metal detectors, we know all their advantages and disadvantages in everyday use. Model II is a great unknown, it would seem because multi-frequency technology is present in this model for the first time! Not completely. We have a MONO program where we can use DEUS II like its predecessor by selecting only single operating frequencies. We get two in one.

The new god of detectors works really well, and subsequent bugs are gradually corrected. This is not only the case for the French company XP, the competition is struggling with similar problems. Even domestic producers have found out that changing the software can be the key to success or total failure. The question is how much the hardware will allow us – i.e. the tripe of the detector. How good they are to meet the developer challenge.

For me, one thing is certain, DEUS I is by no means a thing of the past, but on the secondary market. The question is when XP will withdraw it from production and become an icon of sales portals like the old Whites models. We’ll see, meanwhile, it’s worth considering buying this detector, unfortunately, the price is an obstacle, over PLN 7,599 gross is an amount unavailable for many in Polish realities, even in the sphere of dreams.

So what does the new technology give and what does it change for the statistical Seeker? It’s simple, the device works more stably, is deeper, and in the case of a salty sea beach and highly mineralized clay, it allows you to reach deeper. For a lot of iron, hardware from France shines. Low and high conductors are signaled similarly confidently and unambiguously, which cannot be said about devices operating at one operating frequency. The above advantages will be useful in certain conditions and not everyone needs it, most users will be satisfied with much cheaper equipment, but there is one thing, but … Ergonomics and weight are unbeatable, the lack of cables also makes life easier, although DEUS II, like its predecessor, requires an experienced operator, or a lot of self-denial in learning the device.

If the assumptions described above are not met, it is worth getting interested in something simpler, because some functions require full understanding and, what is worse, they are permanently interconnected, which complicates the matter even more. Yes, it all takes time and patience, but it will certainly pay off in the future when others will have to give up.

DeepTech Vista Gold Hound PREMIERE!

DeepTech Vista Gold Hound is actually a good and proven old school analog in the world of metal detectors. There is no finesse or materials straight from outer space here. Everything is average enough…but not the performance!

YouTube player

The efficient 30 kHz operating frequency allows you to work in slightly more demanding terrain and with very small objects. Are you looking for thin hammered silver coins or fine gold? You will find them. You won’t miss the signal and you’ll appreciate the advantage of the old solutions, where you go only by ear, and every colorful object is checked by digging. This is not the era of displays and conventional ID indications, where the desired coin and can are hidden under the same number!

YouTube player

You have to put some heart and strength into the shovel and we get results. You won’t miss anything, no chance. Another plus is the fabulously simple operation. Good headphones and on the road where only two tones accompany you. Yes, it’s a minimalist detector. You can turn down the low tone of the iron, but it’s worth hearing what’s going on under the probe and whether we’re in the right placeu.

The manufacturer DeepTech leaves us one more powerful weapon, TRESHOLD. Without reducing the sensitivity, we regulate the ground response. We want a quiet and easier work turn. We crave signals from ghosts and deep-seated objects? To the right. The perfect solution for passing places.

Many years ago, the boys made a video with the model GOLD. It beat all other equipment available at the time and there was a wave of hate that the test was being set up. He was not. We know it. You can make it yourself.

YouTube player

Is this a metal detector for everyone and for beginners? Yes, but not for every place. It will do great in a total dump, it is very sensitive, fast as hell and deep enough and unfortunately will not allow you to compromise. No lazy searching here. You don’t have time to check, risk missing the prizes and buy yourself equipment with a TV set!

Nokta Makro The LEGEND kompletne zaskoczenie!

The Nokta Makro The LEGEND metal detector surprised me completely. I did not assume that the device is so well made and works stably and pleasantly. It’s too early to make a final judgment, but my buddies feel the same way. The device has potential.

Let’s start from the beginning. The premise of Nokta Makro was to take over a specific segment occupied by the Equinox 800 model from the Australian company Minelab … and I have a st

range feeling that it just succeeded!

In addition to the lack of defects, the quality and price known from the competition are impressive. We get real multi-frequency equipment, easy to use, waterproof, and really well made. A carbon Seatpost or really great quality wireless headphones with an additional case are really nice gestures and the fact that someone up there is listening to us. There are also disadvantages, such as sloppy glued shipping film, or keys without backlighting or coloring of function icon

s for better visibility. I’m probably picky, but I like complete solutions.

Weight and ergonomics are known from the cheap SIMPLEX+ model and this cannot be questioned, but let’s not forget. This is definitely a high-end detector! Why? The technology allows better signaling of low and high conductors, similar to fine gold jewelry. We will skip less. Work in salt water and highly mineralized soil? No problem. It’s a bit of a Swiss Army Knife, and it’s really refined. Of course, it’s not XP DEUS II, but I think that Minelab will start counting losses at this price quite soon.

The menu is simple and clear, but the settings are really amazing! Do you want to change the volume of signaling for a given ID, its tone, or range? No problem. Do you want to connect BlueTooth wireless headphones and not necessarily factory ones? No problem.

Okay, we already know that. The competition is similar. That’s a fact, but not at this price!

The Ferro Check function is nothing more than a bar showing to what extent the object under the probe is moving towards iron or color. It really makes work easier (caps and other junk), and if we add to it new polyphonic audio, a kind of multitone to choose from, we know much more. Purists can work in two or more tones, freely adjusting them. In the end, we save the ready settings after the pain. The lead signal doesn’t suit us? That’s not a problem either.

Flashlight, the vibration we know it. free update? Great nice too. Watch? Time is important, if the wife is waiting at home, it’s ok. Hour meter? Revelation. Now we know how much our detector really worked.

We have 4 programs such as PARK, POLE, BEACH, and GOLD FIELD. We have a depth indicator, we set the speed of separation of objects, the so-called recovery speed which also affects the depth. We automatically detune interference or select single operating frequencies: 4, 10, 15, 20, and 40 kHz.

I am very pleased with the choice of the MULTI work variant. The PARK and POLE programs, it is M1 and M2. M1 is a multi-frequency range sensitive to high conductors like silver, and M2 to low conductors like gold. This is a great move on the part of the manufacturer, allowing for precise adjustment to the prevailing conditions. The BEACH program has variants Mw and Md, where W (wet) means a wet beach and D (dry) a dry one.

The tests are ongoing. I hope you will share your opinion under this post, more information can be found in the video below:

Tarsacci MDT 8000 how to set up?

How to set up the Tarsacci MDT 8000 detector correctly? The device has a clear and simple menu, without any hidden functions, but still requires a lot of time to take advantage of the new technology, which is not used by any other manufacturer.

The first and key choice is the operating frequency of our detector. We choose from 6.4 to 18 kHz. Interestingly, even a low frequency allows us to detect very small objects in size … well, the charm of PI (pulse induction) used in this hybrid. Lower frequency means better performance – depth, but also worse separation of objects in cluttered terrain. It is also better for signaling coin-shaped and volume objects, as opposed to foil or pieces of aluminum.

Another workflow problem. We have three types: all metal, discrimination, and mixed mode. All Metal will be good for virgin spots, where the signal appears from the holidays. We only have one and we have to look at the ID displayed on the screen. DISC is the only right solution for total trash. The signal is short and if it is repetitive you have to dig. The mixed mode gives us additional information about the size and depth of the object. Places clean or moderately littered.

Before we start, we look for a clean place and calibrate to the ground, if we still have a signal from the ground, we increase the value by 50, this should mute the device. Next, we hear the response of the ground. We can try to use the SALT function – salinity level. We pump the probe traditionally above the soil and adjust the value to mute the response. The starting point is 29. Finally, we are left with THRESHOLD – TRH. You have to be careful here. Too high a value and we lose ranges and we will not hear small objects. We always set the limit. If the ID shows low values when sweeping the probe, we need to compensate with this function.

Iron breaking through the scale and falling into color can be handled by using a DISC value of -29 or +26. Finally, there is the sensitivity adjustment. It’s not worth exaggerating. MDT 8000 already at a value of 4 is deeper than most known detectors. We eliminate all instabilities and interferences by reducing the sensitivity or changing the frequency.

I am curious about your opinions on the Tarsacci MDT 8000 detector, write under this post.

XP DEUS II program GENERAL

The GENERAL program is the basic solution for the XP DEUS II detector. A starting point from which to start, but also a good base for learning and later modifications for your needs.

There are no universal solutions and if someone believes something like that, they are simply naive. Just like ready-made programs for anything and everything. We always start by choosing a program tailored to the subject of the search. For the multi-frequency version, we are looking at the frequency range. Their range will tell us whether the object of our interest will like them. Low conductors like gold love high frequencies, and silver the opposite. This is our primary indicator. Very difficult conditions and tons of iron, maybe it’s worth trying on a single frequency with the DEUS MONO program?

We return to the basic program. We start with setting the REACTIVITY, the most important parameter that affects the performance of the device, such as depth and separation of objects placed next to each other. A higher value and the detector becomes shallower, but it separates objects better, lower and we have a greater depth, but we have to sweep slower and we may not hear a coin placed next to iron, e.g. a nail. So how to choose the settings? We check what is happening under the probe and make a decision. We can experiment with different settings and see how it affects signaling and ranges.

The next step is the GB tab and selecting the GROUND STABILIZER function, a type of filter that affects the response of the substrate. The default value is 2, which is a medium mute level. At level 1, you can walk with some experience. The detector becomes less stable, but a little more can be heard. The end of the scale is a value of 3, the perfect compromise for soils that have a lot to say and make our lives miserable in the form of disturbances. We return to the filter called SILENCER, another compromise between performance and comfort of work, allowing us to eliminate crackling caused by iron elements in the substrate. A high value causes less interference, a lower value ensures that we can hear more again.

We are left with the choice of the type of audio. PWM or SQUARE is a personal preference. We have to answer the question of how much of an orthodox Deusiarz (PWM) or Minelab lover (SQUARE) we have in us. Sensitivity settings or calibration to the soil in a given place probably do not need to be explained, we still have audio and the choice of the number of tones. It depends on the place and personal preferences – your hearing.

The rest is hard training and a lot of work is put into settings and understanding. Without it, there is no chance of results. If you have any questions, comment directly under the video.

Clash of the Titans

The recent debut of XP DEUS II gave me a lot to think about. You can still feel the legacy of Whites Spectra in such an edition that it should be praised. The French company coped with this challenge quite well. Everything else is well known to us and things like wireless or featherweight no longer shock us. The novelty is water resistance up to 20 meters, which opens up completely new possibilities.

How does the TARSACCI MDT 8000 fare against this background? Many people would like to know what is the difference. The build quality and carbon fiber used put it truly in a class of its own, but the DEUS II leads the way here by the full length. It’s good, but as we know, everyone is one step behind and it’s been like this for many years. The weight of 1300 grams is currently the standard in the class of professional devices. Technically, however, we live in two different worlds. DEUS II is a multi-frequency metal detector, while MDT 8000 is a hybrid of VLF and PI (pulse induction) technologies.

So what is the advantage of such a solution? The technology is pioneering and patented in the USA and Europe, but does it really give you something more to spend your last pennies on this detector?

Just carry out a simple test and everything becomes clear. TARSACCI allows you to maintain a stable and unchanging ID in the close presence of small pieces of foil, magnetic stones, or high salinity or high mineralization. This advantage makes the device more resistant to masking. It will cope with more difficult conditions without changing the reading due to the presence of the above-mentioned disturbances and without limiting the depth.

A simple test gives the answer. By sweeping a piece of foil the size of a coin and a coin 5-10 cm above it just in front of the TARSACCI probe we have a fixed and non-changing ID. The foil does not change our signal, similarly, coke and rocks, and iron do not have such a big impact. For the sake of accuracy, we are talking about coin-sized items here. The same test in the case of DEUS II already gives a significant drop in ID.

The advantage of the last XP is multi-frequency, which allows the signaling of equally clear objects from both ends of the scale. Even for low and high conductors. Fine gold as well as heavy silver. The performance may be slightly worse, but in the case of one frequency, it will be slightly better. We have to answer the question what are we interested in? Good signaling of various objects or less masking effect in very difficult conditions? It all depends on the place and subject of the search.

Both models of detectors have the ability to fine-tune settings. DEUS II has more possibilities, and the MDT 8000 is simplified to such an extent that for professional equipment from the top shelf, it is simply strange. The producer decided to put everything on one screen. There are no drop-down submenus like in XP. We see everything at a glance and we don’t have to check if one of the many filters is definitely well-selected and does not affect our performance.

In conclusion, the race is fierce and it is difficult to pick a winner and compare both detectors directly. TARSACCI is more of a Swiss army knife, equipment for heavy and complicated scenarios, where high mineralization or salinity requires the use of a heavy caliber. DEUS II is a versatile, fun metal detector that is lightweight and waterproof, with great configurability and wireless connectivity to make your life easier.

XP DEUS II program RELIC and IAR

The new XP DEUS II surprises. I mean this seriously because over the last few years my DEUS I has been dusting a bit in the closet. As you can see, the French have drawn conclusions and decided to change a lot for the better. The new audio does the job. It does not tire, it is soft and pleasant. This is important because the detector should give joy, not fatigue. This is often the last bastion of freedom for many of us. Our couple of hours on the weekend, separated from reality in nature.

IAR (Iron Amplitude Rejection) discrimination and the RELIC program I decided to test on a well-known field with high mineralization and high iron content. First, run and I can’t hear the audio. Nervous situation. Restarts the hardware. In this place, all the equipment sounds beautiful … but not the new DEUS II. It is so stable that I was fooled like a child by a supposedly non-working loudspeaker … For the first 20 minutes, both Mariusz and I are completely surprised. No, we don’t find anything, but that’s not the point. The detector signals target only. Audio flows and multi-technology stabilize the rough ground. How about the performance? Too early to judge.

To make it better, it is All metal and you can also hear iron, although factory muted. The time for real tests will come in the season. Playing at temperatures below zero degrees Celsius is a bit masochistic, but it was worth it. Remember to subscribe and we’ll meet soon.

Professional detectors for deep excavations

Deposits, relics, or treasures keep many people awake at night. This is every Seeker’s dream. Get something like this. It is not given to everyone.

Deep burials are now rare. It’s not an easy topic. The case is complicated and complex. So what to use for a large animal? Lots of people have heard of it but don’t know it. Frame detector, impulse detector, then there are the terms data logger or graphic imaging.

INVENIO device

The choice is wide and the prices can make you dizzy. From the Nokta Makro offer, you can choose the best INVENIO metal detector. The device in a simple and easy way perfectly illustrates buried items, although it requires attention and a certain work regime. Unfortunately, it is not available to everyone. The price of PLN 35,000 means that it remains in the realm of dreams. It must be remembered that this type of equipment is a poor choice for everyday searches. In addition to the knowledge put in, the solution needs time to interpret the data – to process it. It will be more suitable for archaeological research, field measurements, or when looking for specific things.

Impulse detectors

So what to go with a big animal? I recommend a pulse detector. frame and preferably with a magnetometer. I know from experience that for large militaria the size of the probe is 1 x 1 meter or more. Smaller solutions are too sensitive to small objects and this causes various problems in the field.

In our offer, you will find DeepTech Ground Pioneer 4500. The item is interesting because you can order any frame size in the set and you get an 11-inch probe plus a frame. You can look for small items in the uncluttered areas, such as coins, and this is a big help. If it is clean, the performance will be higher than in classic detectors with VLF technology. PI pulse devices do not have discrimination. The magnetometer helps in the rough differentiation of the so-called color of iron. This is a very helpful solution.

Ciekawostką w ofercie jest sonda do sprawdzania szybów wentylacyjnych czy studni. Można ją zamówić oddzielnie, podobnie jak data logger, który pomaga nam w obrazowaniu znalezisk.

Operation of the detectors

Finally, let’s talk about performance. A beverage can is up to 2 meters deep with a frame size of 1 x 1 meter. In the case of a vehicle, you can talk about performance up to 8 meters. No need to worry, we won’t forget the tank. Objects below the size of a can are not detected, which in the case of surface debris – small can help us.

An additional advantage is an ability to work in the case of a highly mineralized substrate. The disadvantage of this type of device is the speed of operation, lack of discrimination or the need for assistance when using. Two people should carry the probe, and the third one operates the control panel, if we add a data logger to this, the whole thing requires patience, coordination, and an understanding of the operating principles.

So who should choose such a device? Seekers, Deposit Hunters, this type of offer is addressed to them. Archaeologists or geologists document places and also search for empty spaces. As you can see, the application possibilities are quite wide.

Garrett ACE APEX metal detector – is it worth buying a new canary?

I remember starting my adventure with the Garrett AT PRO metal detector today. It was a total infatuation. For those times, it was a really good detector, despite a number of flaws.

Heavy and ill-balanced, it tired my wrist in an instant. A couple of hours and you really wanted to go home. Experts on the subject say that a defect that occurs on land disappears in the water. There is no buoy effect, displacing the device. Possibly, I wasn’t allowed to wade deep with him. The Baltic Sea is for winter, so I only walked on a wet beach. In addition, the manufacturer for many years completely forgot about the ability to adjust the volume level …. Desperate customers did not agree to this, and in the MAX model, you could already enjoy it!

Many years have passed since then. I’ve never been a fan of Garrett’s ACE series. Popular canaries never interested me. Heavy, without the possibility of ground calibration, audio in the form of a chime for the front door scared me away for many years. Don’t get me wrong, it’s first-contact equipment for many, and I started the shelf higher. I was lucky enough to just be able to afford it.

Adventure with the Garrett ACE APEX metal detector

Garrett’s boisterous announcement of a new multi-frequency metal detector was long overdue. The competition has been using this type of device for many years. I had a lot of doubts about whether the new product from the ACE series called APEX would be really good equipment.

The surprise was big. I just had to revoke everything I’d posted before. Very light, well-made, and very simple. These were the first advantages. It is not waterproof, but the time will come after the premiere of the new AT PRO model. When? Nobody knows that.

Full reference to the layout of the buttons from the previous series is a nod to the most conservative users. Simplicity and more simplicity. It only takes a few minutes to switch over, or a few hours to get to know the device from scratch. It’s not everything. When this detector is turned on, there is complete silence. It is incredibly stable. What remains is the boost feature – the sound of the iron, which is quite controversial for one reason. In a heavily littered area, it significantly extends the reaction time, and in a clean one, it allows you to avoid digging garbage. APEX shines on the beach. We will not dig up any caps … which is not so obvious with other devices, even from the top shelf.

The 11-inch probe, working name Viper, is the best solution. It is strongly narrowed, which shortens the reaction time and allows maneuvering in difficult conditions. I do not see the need to change it to something else, because it will take the whole balance to the head, and the performance will change symbolically.

The ability to walk on a salty beach in the additional MS mode, which mutes and stabilizes the device, is a big advantage. We have one more. This is not even Minelab in the cheaper Vanquish models. Frequency selection. Yes, we can choose. 5, 10, 15, or 20 kHz. This is a great option when the conditions are really volatile and we want to look for specific things.

In addition to the advantages, there are also disadvantages of the APEX detector

The APEX metal detector also has disadvantages. This is a typical general cargo vessel, I would choose something completely different when looking for military, and large ones. It is also only rainproof. You can submerge the probe. Electronics no more. Although she survived a snowstorm at my place, so I can’t really complain. The housing has an internal gasket.

Garrett ACE APEX metal detector – summary

To sum up, the APEX metal detector is a really good and simple device, maybe not the cheapest, but the manufacturer has packed nice, modern electronics inside that can cope quite well in harsh conditions. I buy this product, and you?

DeepTech metal detector – heir to Tesoro

The Tesoro metal detector was synonymous with durability and quality, simplicity, and outstanding performance. Unfortunately, like Whites Electronics, it was lost in the depths of history. It won’t come back anymore. DeepTech used the legacy of Tesoro, adding a lot from themselves, and while you can have reservations about the quality of workmanship, absolutely not when it comes to performance and audio.

Analog devices

The simplicity of analog knobs and two-tone audio does not appeal to every Seeker or Detector. You have to be born with it or love it. There are no bells and whistles, you will not see the display and numerical identification of the target. Ground calibration is manual. In this way, we get to know the roots of detecting, and the adventure with the metal detector becomes complete. We learn the equipment and the principle of operation, we understand many factors that we normally miss.

Such analog organicity in the world of metal detectors. The lack of a scale of numbers forces us to constantly work, it is more difficult to skip items because you have to check it. Our hearing becomes our ally in the search, and not the board in the detector housing, but our brain becomes the computer. There is a no faster and better computer.

I remember Mariusz and I were surprise when, testing the 14-inch probe for the Vista X detector, we buried Kopeyka at 67 cm in an arable field. We couldn’t believe that the device would signal it. We checked a couple of times. We had doubts about whether something had been overlooked us. Next was a 47 cm thin silver coin, similarly loud and clear. The last was the base of the IWW fuse, a trifle 1 meter 20 centimeters long. There are no illusions.

On top of everything comes double discrimination, which allows you not to lose off-road performance. The most important depth. Other metal detectors don’t have that choice. We set discriminate and lose performance. Here we can check items. In the DeepTech Vista X model, there is also the so-called. Threshold, i.e. adjustment of the threshold signal, in this case, it is rather a ground filter, allowing for smooth regulation of its response. We want to work silently, without ghost signals or interference, we just turn and kick certain signals only. We want to reach deep, we dial the threshold and look for ghost signals. We only dig the silent deepest targets.

Alternative to SMART PRO+

Anyone who appreciates simplicity can choose the SMART PRO+ model. Why? It does not have double discrimination or Threshold, but it has a Pinpoint with which we can precisely target targets and, with a little practice, check their type. A simple and intuitive device, which, according to the manufacturer’s assurances, is not inferior to the Vista X model.

Summary

Finally, there’s the Vista Gold Gain II metal detector. The high frequency of operation allows searching in heavier soil conditions and with greater iron contamination and highlights small and thin objects. Gold jewelry or silver coins are no longer a problem.

Everyone will find something for themselves and that’s for sure. If you want to focus on the results and not on the equipment, take a chance and choose DeepTech.

The best Tarsacci MDT 8000 detector revolution in the user’s eye

Half a year ago, if someone had told me that I would get a professional detector like the Tarsacci MDT 8000, I would not have believed it at all … and I did not believe it waiting for a device straight from the USA. I had my doubts standing in the field with him. Now I’m sure. This is the best device I’ve had in my hands for over 10 years … unfortunately, not the cheapest either.

Pros and cons of the detector

I understand there will be two camps here. One says that a good thing must cost money and the other is where you can buy really great equipment for 1/2 the price. Both sides have their reasons, but as we know, the devil is in the details.

Quality workmanship knocks down. No slack, fudge, or complaints … there is one defect of the carbon detector post … apparently, it whistles in the wind … that’s what I read on the Tarsacci forum on Facebook.

Tarsacci Poland:

Tarsacci UK:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/795633577904679

Everything else is a masterpiece, but it doesn’t surprise me at all. Just check who is responsible for creating this equipment. Dimitar Gargov – former engineer of the Fisher Labs company, which needs no introduction to anyone, like their metal detectors, which are known all over the world. Finally, just add the name and surname: Thomas Dankowski and we have one of the best duos in this field in the world. After over two years of testing and we have the Tarsacci MDT 8000.

Water resistance is a big advantage, but to surprise nowadays, apart from performance, you have to give something else. In this case, we get amazing, soft audio that was created by someone who really dealt with real field research. The sounds do not tire for many hours, they give a precise description of the item and a lot of additional information. When we add above-average performance even with the first 11×9-inch probe, we are shocked. There’s no need to cheat. The Polish icon RUTUS Alter 71 is over 7 to 10 cm shallower in mixed mode, which can be seen in the videos below.

A quick visual comparison of Tarsacci MDT 800 and Rutus Alter 71 in heavy clay soil.

The joy of a professional detector

The popular Boratynka with 30 cm? No problem. Loud and clear, not to be missed. The machine confidently fastens on good objects and gives a descriptive response in the form of sound. Trash and the signature changes, and the sound is longer and blurry. There is no doubt. Here’s an example search video. For several weeks, Mariusz has been unable to get rid of the feeling that he should collect money for this detector. Unfortunately, it is financially out of his reach.

How often to search for metals

In the end, a knockout in a littered area or under the lines. Work stability. There is complete silence. Sometimes I check with a shovel if Tarsacci is still working. Do you have a problem? Is something waking up? You change the operating frequency for your choice: 6.4Khz, 9Khz, 12Khz, and 18Khz. In this way, you can influence the performance or adjust the frequency of work to the prevailing conditions or the items you are looking for. For example, we are interested in big and deep old iron, we use 6.4Khz. We need to take care of ourselves in the trash and look for something small 12 or 18Khz will be a great choice.

The manufacturer spoils us by giving a huge Li-ion battery in the set and a charger, basically two batteries with a capacity of 5000 mAh each. I don’t remember, yet, that it was possible to completely discharge it by going to 9Khz. After 4-5 hours, no line falls, and we still have a supply.

Intuitive operation of the Tarsacci device

The simplicity of use brings to mind devices from the lowest price segment. No drop-down menus or hidden functions or filters that we need to remember about. It’s an amazing advantage. We don’t stand around and rummage through equipment while others dig up stuff.

Flexibility to work in various conditions, from extremely salty beaches to highly mineralized soils, puts Tarsacci at the forefront of the best devices of this type. We have the ability to compensate for volcanic sands and magnetic soils in the form of the BLK (Black Sand) function. We also affect the salinity with the ST settings. And I don’t mean an ocean beach at all… but fields with tons of fertilizers. In this way, apart from the stability mentioned at the beginning, we get peace of mind in the form of no masking from coke or foil. This is a significant advantage over other devices that simply can’t cope in the world.

You can go back to the places you have been to and enjoy them again. In combination with the new 12-inch probe, we get another up to 10 cm more. Finally, the user’s statement:

☘️ Half a year with Tersacci and 2 months with a 12 “coil. I have flown a lot of hours, I think I used 10 batteries and one is enough for a very long time 18 hours at 6.4khz and over 30 at 18khz. There are rather no defects in the construction, the only holes in the seat post howl in the wind ? but they are already wrapped. The traces of wear on the machine are negligible. As for the new coil and without the cover, it seemed to me that it would wear out very quickly, but nothing could be more wrong, only minor scratches came out and that’s it, and the areas were plowed fields, meadows, and stones.

As for the handling, it is very strange because I have not yet met a detector that would be at maximum sensitivity all the time and was so stable ..! As with all detectors, you have to overlap and dig to understand what and where.

Anyone who has doubts and decides that it is just marketing can use the forum where users describe their experiences with this detector in English:

See you in the field!

Tarsacci MDT 8000 another decision
